Pressure Points for Self-Defense

Although you likely don’t want to think about it, a time might arise in your life where you have to stand up for yourself in self-defense. When you’re in the moment, your fight or flight response will kick in, but the difference between surviving an attack and becoming a victim can depend on how prepared you are.

Carrying the S.W.A.T. Pen by The Atomic Bear is an excellent tool to prepare yourself with, and at less than $14, you can carry one on your person, stock your cars, and keep one in your gym bag. The S.W.A.T. Pen is a self-defense device, window breaker, seatbelt slasher, and yes, a writing pen. Check it out today.

Having a self-defense tool is just the first step to being prepared for an emergency situation. The important part is knowing how to use it correctly for maximum effectiveness. We’ve already covered how to break a window safely, and in this week’s post, we’ll go over some pressure points to aim for during an assault. Knowing these ahead of time and practicing them will make a world of difference in your preparedness.

Yell. Loudly.

While not exactly a pressure point, the ears are very sensitive, especially when the adrenaline is high. Attackers are not expecting you to fight back, but when you yell loudly for them to back off, stop, or get away from you, they’ll know you’re not going down without a fight. Additionally, by telling somebody to get away, you’re alerting others around you that an attack is happening. Screaming could mean anything, and bystanders who only hear it aren’t as likely to come to your aid.

Go for the Face

With your S.W.A.T. Pen or fingers, go for the eyes. They are extremely soft and sensitive, and when your fingers or pen dig into the sockets, your attacker will be subdued very quickly. Their first instinct will be to move to protect their eyes. While a kick to the shins can certainly be effective, think about this: a bruise on the shin can heal relatively quickly, but injuries to the eyes cannot. Your attacker will do anything to preserve their eyesight, moving their hands to cover their face.

The nose is another great pressure point, especially when you hit the septum (the little band of cartilage between the nostrils). The septum is highly sensitive to pain, easy to break, and an excellent target. Hitting it head on is fine, but hitting it so that you’re swinging upward, hitting the area where the septum and upper lip meet, is going to inflict maximum damage.

Go for the Side of the Neck

Your neck is soft, with little to protect it. It also houses your spinal cord, carotid artery, jugular vein, and the delicate trachea. A well-aimed strike to the side of the neck, where you’re likely to catch one of these vital parts of the body, is very effective. Digging the fingertips into the clavicle and pulling is also extremely painful.

Go for the Groin

Hitting the groin is a bit obvious. Your attacker is likely going to expect this in the form of a knee. That’s effective, of course. However, using a tactical pen that’s sharp and can damage tissue is even better.

When you want the ultimate in tactical tools, buy the S.W.A.T. Pen. Order yours now.
